Weather is our biggest friend and also our biggest enemy. We need the right wind strength to train. keep an eye on the Cloudbase forum and Blog for up to date weather information.

Some days, especially in summer, will have perfect evenings and early mornings but be thermic and gusty in the middle of the day – at Cloudbase we’ll take advantage of any weather window we can, even 3pm on Christmas Day!

Weather forcasts

These are some of our favourite weather sites:

Magic Seaweed: animated 7 day synoptic forecast (like the BBC used to give before it was dumbed down).
XCWeather: nice map with actual wind strengths and 5 day forecast – hover over Lyneham and Boscombe Down for our local area
Met Office: but don’t read too much into the gust predictions (they are sometimes a bit too pessimistic).
BBC: use Pewsey for local predictions.
Redlands Airfield: Real time weather at an airfield just east of Swindon.
Beechingstoke: Private weather station in Beechingstoke, just south of Milk Hill.
RASP: The famous "RASP" table for more advanced flying; this will give you thermal information and is worth getting to know as your flying career advances.
